The Gielen Mansion

The Gielen Mansion is a luxury leisure establishment situated in Napsan, in the west coast of Puerto Princesa. Owned by Herwig and Theresa Gielen, the mansion serves as their family rest house but is also available to select clients.

The Gielen property in Napsan alone stretches from the last bridge from the mansion up to the lower mountains visible from the mansion patio - estimated to be more than 250,000 square metres (2008).

The Gielen Mansion is built upon a Napsan mountain side where it overlooks the South China Sean horizon culled by a small cove by the Puerto Princesa west coast. Waves in this area of the Palawan west coast favors water sports such as surfing and jet skiing. Islands are also visible from the shore and maybe accessed by boat (several islands are also Gielen properties).

The mansion is equipped with its own independent power supply. Water at the property is naturally irrigated from mountain springs. It maintains a vast garden of organically grown produce. It provides employment opportunities for indigenous people who they take in for staffing and maintenance. Fresh seafood is available daily.

The Gielen Mansion is less than 65 kilometres from the Puerto Princesa city proper and is easily accessible through land travel with an average travel time of less than an hour.

Starfish Island is a premier destination and has been a long-time staple in island hopping adventures in Puerto Princesa's Honda Bay. It is located 15 Minutes from the Sta. Lourdes wharf via boat. The island measures a little less than three hectares (2.6 - 2.9 Hec depending on the tide). Mangroves and palm trees dot the inner area of the island.

A number of cottages are spread across the main shore to accommodate tourists and island hoppers for shelter where they can also enjoy lunch and drink.

All meals provided by Isla Palawano: breakfasts, special lunches prepared at tour locations and dinners at top establishments in the City. All tours are led by licensed tour guides and are transferred by experienced drivers in air-conditioned vehicles. Isla Palawano shoulders all establishment fees and provides all necessary permits for all trips. This includes rental for boats and sheds for trips that require them. Minimum of 6 (six) pax. Accommodations based on twin/triple/quad sharing at Ysabelle Mansion and Asturias Hotel respectively.

RESERVATION and PAYMENT

Upon approval of the services to be reserved, 50% of the total cost is to be paid to confirm the reservation. This amount is non-refundable but is transferable and maybe re-booked (see RE-BOOKING terms). Reservation binds the client to full payment of services reserved within 30 days from the targeted date of arrival.

Payment method is strictly cash to be deposited into Isla Palawano's official bank account - bank information is available upon request; all bank fees shouldered by the depositing client.

Full payment for services is to be collected upon client’s arrival.

RE-BOOKING

Revising the dates of reserved services is possible but must be redefined at least 30 days prior to the original target dates. The new dates will be within 60 days from the first day of the original date. Only one re-booking/revision of dates will be allowed.

CANCELLATION / REDUCTION

Cancellations or reduction of the number participants or the items of service should be made at least ten (10) days prior to arrival.

Cancellation frees the client of any unpaid obligations contracted by the act of reservation.

Reduction of the number participants or the items of service allows for the redefinition of services reserved, the terms of which is defined primarily by Isla Palawano. Appropriate charges maybe imposed at Isla Palawano’s arbitrary discretion to cover for any losses that may have been caused by any reductions.

BILLING ARRANGEMENTS

Unless prior credit arrangements have made, all bookings are prepaid. Isla Palawano shall not accept post dated or personal checks. We are also currently unable to accept credit card payments.

DISCRETIONARY ALTERATIONS

Isla Palawano has the discretion to make alterations to itineraries in favor of optimal delivery of services.

ARRIVAL and SCHEDULE ADHERANCE

Failure to arrive on the expected date and time or failure to comply with designated pick up times, for any and all circumstances, forfeits affected items of service.

REFUSAL OF SERVICE

Isla Palawano reserves the right to refuse service to individuals that it finds unfit to participate in its activities.

These include but are not limited to:
• Individuals who are physically unfit to participate
• Individuals with behavioral issues
• Individuals with hygiene problems
• Individuals who are potentially harmful to themselves and to others

FORCE MAJEURE

Isla Palawano shall not be liable for failure to comply with these arrangements due to force majeure, labor disputes, natural disasters or other causes beyond the control of the management. Likewise, Isla Palawano shall not be liable if the group is unable to arrive due to flight cancellations or other causes beyond control.

The boom of Palawan tourism has led many to venture into investing into its elements. It is unfortunate to observe that the intentions for service and hospitality have been forgotten in favor of the want to profit. Tour guides and agencies have taken to the pirate code, “Take what you can, give nothing back”. This hack-and-kill attitude of some is oriented towards extracting what they can from every opportunity – preying on the listless tourist – listless and so far from his comfort zones.

Bad impressions and bad conclusions all lead to negative things that would take shape sooner or later. Every tourist that is taken advantage of is someone who is likely not to return. He is also someone who would not invite any of his friends to go where he has been. He might be someone who would start stopping people from going. He could be one of these three and is adequately computer savvy – a skill that can amplify the thoughts and feelings of a person indefinitely.

Businesses that operate short sighted of these potential perils, have obviously not learned from the analogous lessons of the human race’s hasty and steady destruction of his environment. Destroyed habitats resulting from abuse, exploitation and neglect affect whole populations – culprits and innocents, the bellyful and the have-nots – without prejudice, without a single receipt of fault or merit.

It is fortunate that the allure of the islands of Palawan is far too great to disenchant even for a whole generation of pirates with tour guide name tags.

Cancellations or reduction of the number participants should be made at least ten (10) days prior to arrival. Cancellations or reduction of the number participants done less than 8 (eight) days before expected arrival date shall be subject to a 50% cancellation charge.

During periods of high occupancy, cancellations should be made fifteen (15) days prior to arrival.

If guests fail to arrive on the expected date, a 50% cancellation fee for all services reserved shall be imposed.

In the event that the guests arrive later than the expected date, they are given the option of a) taking advantage of what can still be done from their itinerary or b) taking off with a fresh itinerary upon their arrival, with costs adjusted appropriately.
